Windows 95 and Up
Uploading Your Site onto the Web
General Reminders for your webpage before it goes up
1. The first page that you want the web viewer to see has to be named "index.html"
- All others can end with the .htm or .html extension
2. Check your site for usuability, loading time of the graphics, as well as any spelling errors that there could be.
Now let's begin!...
You will have to find a good FTP (File-Transfer Protocol) program to upload these files.
I personally prefer CuteFTP, Windows 98 or higher, or Windows 95.
You can also find other FTP programs such as WS FTP or BulletProof FTP.
These are pretty much all the same, serve same fuctions for your web page and all pretty easy to use with graphical interfaces.
I will run the example though of uploading files with CuteFTP, as it is the easiest.
Once installed and everything, open CuteFTP, you see this screen:
At first you will click New (Lower left hand side), then fill in the information as seen. Your password is the same as the one you log in with.
Then you are ready to Connect!
Now to get to your directory to store your files:
Double Click on www-pages and you will get to this screen:
As you can see I went into my directory where my files that I want to upload are, that is because that is all we have to do now.
All you have to do to upload is select your files from your directory and then move your cursor to the button:
Keep doing that until all your files are in that directory and your page will be located at:
http://www.atconnex.net/~yourusername
